God gives women many seasons of life and of ministry. A mother’s seasons will definitely change as her children grow up, but God always gives the right ministry for the right season. And ministry starts wherever you are.
Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”As a mother, your home is your Jerusalem. Get involved where your children are, and that’s where God has already provided opportunities for ministry.
Preschool years
Get to know your neighbors. When you go to your children’s activities, look for other young mothers.
Embracing it: I wasn’t ready to be a grandma!
Pray for your kids: Breakthrough Prayer
Invite them for coffee or lunch. Then pray and look for opportunities to share your faith. You can initiate a conversation about spiritual things by giving them a Christmas Digest or a Women Today magazine and asking for their comments.
Another idea is to host an evangelistic coffee or a Christmas open house in your home. That’s how my neighbor Doreen came to the Lord. Our boys played together, and I would invite her over for coffee. As we became friends, I shared my faith with her. She prayed to receive Christ at an evangelistic coffee in my home.
Elementary school years
With a Mothers Who Care group, you can pray for the staff and students at your child’s school. Our group has prayed together for the past 12 years, and we’ve seen many answers to prayer. Children have led others to Christ and teens have invited friends to their youth group. Remember my neighbor Doreen? Both her sons became Christians because their friends invited them to church activities.
Get to know your child’s teacher. Invite her to lunch. Teachers are always glad to get out of the school for lunch. Build your relationship by helping in the classroom or on field trips. Offer to tell stories or do a puppet show to share the true meaning of Christmas or Easter.
Get involved with your local Parent Advisory Council (PAC). Several Christian moms I know have given videos such as Sex, Lies, and Truth and Teacher of the Year to their children’s school through the PAC.
Community sport leagues are also a great place to get to know people. My husband has coached many sports. At the end of the season, we always try to organize a closing event, such as a pizza party, where we can give the children and their parents evangelistic materials, like Life Story tapes highlighting the lives of well-known Christian personalities, such as Paul Henderson and Dave Dravecky. We also invite the kids to Athletes in Action sports camps.
High school years
Stay involved in your teen’s life and attend games, concerts and festivals. Offer to chauffeur for games and other events. Open your home to your children’s friends and encourage your teens to share with their friends. You may have a chance to lead a teen to Christ or disciple one using The Total Package.
Continue to disciple your teens, giving them good materials and challenging them to have regular quiet times. Keep talking with them and share from your walk with the Lord.
What season of life are you in? What areas is your child already involved in? Open your eyes and see what God sees when He looks at your world. Now, choose one area to focus on in the next three months, keeping in mind that these ideas for ministry are drawn from the panorama of a lifetime. Don’t try to do them all at once.
Remember, too, that you need to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit. And that your most important ministry is to your husband and children, in every season of life.

why should we prepare before pregnancy
Most prospective parents take the process of procreation for granted as natural and practically automatic. The idea of consciously preparing for conception and pregnancy is a rather recent phenomenon, but well worth the effort.
Preconception care encompasses the health services provided to women and men of reproductive age in preparation for a future pregnancy. Preconception care provides a window of opportunity to optimize both partners' health and identify any risks and take steps to reduce them.
Many of the recommendations included in preconception preparation can be done by the individual or in concert with a healthcare professional, including your own OB-GYN, or programs that specialize in this type of care.
Research has shown that every aspect of our reproduction is adversely affected in some way by our 21st century lifestyle and living conditions. The food you eat, the environment you live in, and the lifestyle you lead in the months before you conceive a child can have profound effects on the well being of your baby. Preconception healthcare can help prevent miscarriage, stillbirths, premature births, and congenital abnormalities, and can enhance fertility even with couples who have had difficulty conceiving on their own. In addition, preconception care can allow women to have a healthier pregnancy, recover more quickly after birth, and decrease your child's risk for certain adult health problems.
Large numbers of studies with animals show that when either parent is deficient in one or a number of essential nutrients, the offspring will be miscarried or will suffer from a variety of malformations. These malformations, which in the past were believed to be genetic, can be manipulated in the lab by inducing a deficiency or deficiencies in one or more of the essential vitamins and minerals.
All this means there are many things you can do to improve your physical health and psychological readiness in the critical six- to 12-month period before conception.
Anyone, really. But if you fit any of the descriptions below, you're a good candidate.
Normal healthy, fertile couples who want to do the best for their babies.
Couples who have had difficulty conceiving, including couples with low sperm count or motility, ovulation problems, endometriosis, etc.
Couples who have had one or more miscarriages.
Couples with a personal history of birth defects, prematurity, low birth weight, stillbirth, or sudden infant death syndrome.
Couples seeking treatment for infertility through in vitro fertilization, gamete intrafallopian transfer, or intrauterine insemination who want a healthy baby as well as an increase in their chance to conceive (success rates for advanced reproductive technologies are relatively low—25 percent per cycle at best).
Older couples, including women over 40 years.
Protecting your fertility potential should really begin in your teens. Preconception preparation for both partners should begin six to 12 months prior to attempting to conceive.
You may be wondering why certain baby-friendly actions must be implemented in the months prior to conception. For one thing, the formation of sperm may take up to four months, so that any change in diet, lifestyle, or chemical exposure should allow at least that much time for them to have the greatest effect on conception and the health of the baby.
You must also take into account the amount of time required to realistically assess your health needs, to implement changes, adopt new habits, and have them become part of your lifestyle. The added bonus is that your future children will benefit from the healthy lifestyle they grow up with.
Three organizations have made significant contributions to defining what needs to be considered before conception. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations include at least an 18-month time period between pregnancies, 400 mcg or more of folic acid a day, cessation of smoking, avoidance of alcohol, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, HIV testing, up-to-date immunizations, assessment of chronic conditions, avoidance of unsafe drugs during pregnancy, and achieving a healthy weight. The March of Dimes, the CDC, and 34 partner organizations are working together to educate health providers, women, and men about the importance of preconception risk reduction and healthcare .
Foresight, the Association for the Promotion of Preconception Care based in Surrey, England, has been the gold standard for preconception care in the UK since the 1970s. Starting six to 12 months prior to attempting to conceive, its client couples undergo a thorough health assessment that includes medical history, lifestyle, and assessment for allergies, nutritional imbalances, heavy metal loads, genitourinary infections, and intestinal parasites. Men are assessed for prostate infections and sperm count. The couples are advised to eat a diet of low glycemic, organic food. They are also counseled on fertility timing.

We all know about the importance of prenatal medical care in assuring the health of a pregnant woman and her baby. But many experts now recommend that women start seeing an obstetrician before they become pregnant for something called pre-pregnancy or preconception care.
It may seem excessive -- after all, why start worrying before you're pregnant? But a doctor can help even at an early stage. He or she can run tests to make sure that you and your partner don't have any hidden illnesses that could affect your pregnancy or your chances of becoming pregnant. Your doctor can also give you advice about exercise, eating, and lifestyle. Some studies show that preconception care can increase your chances of becoming pregnant and reduce the risks of miscarriage or birth defects.

Understanding Stillbirth -- the Basics
Stillbirth is the delivery, after the 20th week of pregnancy, of a baby who has died. Loss of a fetus before the 20th week of pregnancy is called a miscarriage. A baby is stillborn in about 1 in 200 pregnancies. Because many stillbirths occur in what appear to be normal pregnancies, the parents-to-be are rarely prepared for this devastating outcome. Most women who have a stillbirth will be able to have a healthy baby in their next pregnancy. If the stillbirth was caused by a chromosomal or umbilical...

What to Expect During a Pre-Pregnancy Checkup
Your doctor will want to start a pre-pregnancy checkup by getting a full medical history from both you and your partner. He or she will also want to run a number of tests -- such as blood tests and a Pap smear -- to make sure that neither of you have any medical conditions that could affect pregnancy or your chances of conceiving. Your doctor might test for illnesses such as:
Rubella, or German measles
Chickenpox
HIV
Hepatitis B
Herpes
Other STDs (such as chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea)
Thyroid problems (with a TSH test)
Other conditions, such as toxoplasmosis, parvovirus B19 (also called fifth disease), and cytomegalovirus
Your doctor may want to run tests to evaluate your fertility, such as:
Postcoital test . A small sample of your cervical fluid is taken shortly after you have sex during ovulation; your doctor examines both the fluid and the condition of the sperm in it.
Semen (sperm) analysis. A sample of semen is taken from your partner to determine his sperm count and sperm motility (how active the sperm are).
Finally, depending on your ethnicity, your doctor may recommend genetic tests for:
Sickle cell anemia
Thalassemia (an inherited form of anemia)
Jewish genetic diseases, such as Tay-Sachs disease
If it's time for you to update your vaccines, it's important to do so before you are pregnant. A few specific vaccinations, such as the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella), varicella (the virus that causes chickenpox), or hepatitis A vaccines increase the risk of birth defects. Experts advise that you wait at least 28 days after receiving some of these vaccinations before trying to conceive.
Managing Diseases in Pre-Pregnancy
If you have an existing medical condition, such as epilepsy, high blood pressure, asthma, or diabetes, it's especially important to seek out medical care before getting pregnant. Not only is it crucial to keep these illnesses under control during your pregnancy for both your and your baby's sake, but some common medications used to treat these conditions -- such as certain high blood pressure drugs -- can have an adverse affect on your pregnancy. If this is true of a medication that you're currently using, your doctor may be able to suggest a substitute.
Your doctor will probably recommend some other things if you're trying to conceive, for instance:
Take 0.4 mg of folic acid every day. Folic acid, which naturally occurs in leafy green vegetables and artificially in fortified flour and rice products, has been shown to lower the risk of certain birth defects. Experts recommend that in addition to a good diet, you should take a multivitamin with folic acid daily for three months before pregnancy and at least three months into pregnancy. If you've had a previous pregnancy in which the fetus had birth defects of the brain and spinal cord, your doctor will probably recommend a higher dose of 4 mg of folic acid daily.
Avoid drugs and alcohol. Not only should you stop taking any illicit drugs, but you should also talk with your doctor about whether you should continue taking any other medications or herbal supplements.
Stop smoking. Smoking can make it harder to get pregnant, and it poses risks to the fetus.
Eat well and exercise. Being over- or underweight can increase risks during pregnancy. Your doctor may also recommend that you avoid certain kinds of fish, such as swordfish, king mackerel, and shark because they may contain mercury that can cause problems in pregnancy.
Go to the dentist. There is research that suggests gum disease -- an infection of the gums caused by plaque -- may increase the risk of delivering preterm or low-birth-weight weight babies. It's important for women trying to conceive to treat gum disease if they have it and, if they don't, to practice good oral hygiene to prevent it from developing.
Think about the changes that having a baby will bring before you get pregnant. Having a child will affect everything in your life -- your career, your finances, and your relationship with your spouse or partner, among other things. Nine months can be a pretty short time to figure all of those issues out, so your doctor may be able to give some advice that will help get you ready. Your doctor may also suggest preconception classes at a local hospital if they're available.

8 Fashion Tips For New Moms
When you’re overwhelmed the first month with your new baby, being stylish isn’t exactly a priority. But wearing something that makes you feel good can have a positive impact on your whole outlook. Get tips — plus advice on what to wear if you’re nursing — from Alison Sweeney, host of The Biggest Loser and author of The Mommy Diet: A Month-by-Month Plan for a Healthy Body and Mind Before, During, and After Pregnancy.
1. Don’t expect to squeeze into your old clothes right away! Too-tight clothes are never attractive, so even if you can lie down and zip up your jeans with pliers, don’t. Have patience, and remember that it took you nine months to get up to the size you were when you had your baby, and it might take nine months to get back to your former size.
2. Hang on to a few of your favorite maternity pieces for a little while. Nothing tentlike, please, but maybe a great pair of jeans that look like normal designer jeans with an internal adjustable waistband, or a cute top from before you got really big. Yes, it’s tempting to burn the pregnancy clothes the minute you have your bundle of joy, but some of them might help you look good and feel comfortable during the transitional first month (or two or three).
3. Skip the superbaggy clothes. Baggy clothes aren’t hiding anything; they just look sloppy.
4. Wear dark colors, keep the silhouette simple, and avoid bright prints that call attention to themselves. (“Buy yourself a bouquet of flowers, don’t wear it,” Liza reminds me.)
5. Empire waists are still your best friends.
6. Buy two (affordable) bras at a time. Your bra size may change many times over the next few months, so don’t go out and buy a dozen bras at once, but have two that fit you well right now.
7. This is still not the time to invest in expensive clothes—your current size is not permanent. Look for inexpensively flattering pieces from stores like Target, and maybe a few trendy pieces from Forever 21, or borrow some cute pieces from friends who’ve gone through the same transitional period. (Other moms understand—and are usually happy to help out by lending clothes or giving you hand-medowns.)
8. If you want to treat yourself to something, think about a cashmere wrap or cardigan that can cocoon you and still look good a size up from your normal size.

Swollen feet and ankles are some of the most discomforting effects of pregnancy; the extra water weight can also put stress on your knees and joints. Choosing the right pair of shoes is especially important during this critical time since you need as much support as possible; even when those fancy stilettos are calling your name, they'll have to be set aside until your post-pregnancy days. Your feet can grow an entire shoe size during the second and third trimester, and this can shift and change from day to day; the best way to manage is to purchase shoes designed with extra support and made with a fabric that can expand as you grow. Here are some tips for choosing the right pair of shoes during pregnancy:
1. Choose a slip-on instead of a lace-up. Slip-on shoes are your best bet for comfort and versatility. Ballet flats are a great investment when you find the right size, and choose a shoe in a wide width style for optimal comfort. Slip-on shoes with padded insoles will give your feet some extra support during particularly stressful days.
2. Purchase some quality walking shoes. Mark Fenton, the co-author of Walking Through Pregnancy and Beyond: How Expectant Moms Can Walk Through a Happy and Healthy Pregnancy and First Year encourages moms-to-be to walk their way to fitness and good health, which in turn can keep your legs in shape. Exercise also helps boost circulation that can reduce swelling and water weight gain; a quality pair of walking shoes is all you need to get started. Light hiking shoes with a slight boot style will give your legs and back the support you need in any trimester.
3. Enjoy the freedom of sandals. Sandals with a kitten heel or no heel at all are your best bets for saving your back. Your lower back becomes an especially sensitive area when you're trotting along in high heels, so choose kitten heels at most if you want some height. Pregnancy.org recommends staying away fro high heels to avoid a sprained ankle and joint pain.
4. Try on a pair of Clogs. While they're not exceptionally fashionable, clogs do serve a purpose; they're used by many hospital professionals and workers who are on their feet for long periods of time because of their solid sole and comfortable construction. Clogs are also easy to put on - no need to bend over to tie up laces or buckles - and are a great addition for your casual wardrobe.
5. Try a pair of sneakers or tennis shoes. Simple canvas sneakers or tennis shoes offer plenty of support, comfort, and a stretchy fabric to accommodate your changing sizes. Look for tennis shoes in a light canvas material for optimum comfort.
If you can't bare the thought of going 'heel-less' during pregnancy, you can still enjoy a slight heel, according to RipeFruit.com. You can reach for heels with that are less than 2 inches high to avoid muscle soreness, back pain, or injury.

Pros for old mommy
It's becoming more and more common for couples to wait until they're a
little older to have children. There are many reasons for this,
including men and women wanting the freedom to experiment in their 20s
(and not wanting to feel tied down to a child); not feeling
psychologically ready to be parents; wanting to establish themselves and
their careers before bringing children into the world; having trouble
finding a spouse; and having trouble conceiving.
Waiting to have children until you're older can be a good thing.
If
you're 35 when you have your first child, you've been an adult for
longer than someone who is 25. You have more life experience and more
inner resources to draw on in stressful times.
You'll also have your own sense of identity based on your life
experiences.
Parents who have children when they're young sometimes
define themselves based on their children: "I'm a mom" or "I'm Jackie's
mom." Older parents are less likely to define themselves based on their
children; instead, their children are an additional "feature" to the
sense of self they've already developed.
At early-middle age you'll be at the height of your earning power,
meaning you'll be more financially stable and better able to support
your children and provide everything they need as they grow up. Having
children in mid-life will provide you with a sense of renewal,
refreshing and energizing you at a time that you might otherwise start
to feel down about growing older.
In mid-life, people tend to value life in general more than younger
people do. As a middle-aged parent, you're more likely to really value
and appreciate every moment you have to spend with your children.

Mommy and child Activities to Try
One of the best things about parenting a baby or toddler is having an instant partner for fun! From tumble time to art adventures, there are plenty of new activities you can try together. And, if you play your cards right, you can even hang out with your baby while getting back into shape.
You can plan activities on your own to bond with your little one, but if you're not the DIY type, most communities offer organized "mommy and me" playgroups and classes. The local library, gym or zoo is a good place to start your search, but you can find notices on the bulletin board at your pediatrician's office and other places new parents frequent, as well as online. Most activities include a series of sessions; if you don't want to commit to a strict schedule, look for drop-in classes. You'll want to ask a few questions before you join, such as whether there are age limits for the class.
Whichever type of activity you choose, the benefits far outweigh the work of getting your little one bathed, dressed, fed and transported on time. Not only will the two of you bond (it's good to branch out from the closeness of 2 a.m. feedings), but you can network with other new moms. Plus, there's no better way to get the scoop on preschools or sleep strategies than from a few new friends with first-hand experience.

what to do during pregnancy
1) Exercise during pregnancy
Most women who are pregnant should try 30 minutes of exercise on most if not all days depending on health condition
Exercises can be walking, swimming and dancing
Yoga and Aerobics
Also Pilates is one of the best exercises do, both during and after pregnancy. Make sure to get some Pilates background if you never done Pilates before. One the top reasons Pilates and pregnancy go together so well is that Pilates is great at building core strength. If your abdominals, back, and pelvic floor/Kegel muscles are toned, they will support a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery. Pilates is also famous for helping new moms get their figures back after baby is born!
2) Exercise to avoid during pregnancy
Skiing, Water Skiing, Horseback Riding
3) What to wear when you exercise during pregnancy
Don't wear tight clothes, but do wear a good sports bra that will give you good support. Wear shoes that have good support and are not slippery, so you won't fall. Breathe deeply, drink a lot of water, and always to keep your heart rate under 140 beats per minute. Avoid jerking motions and lying on your back for extended periods of time.

5 things you must know to choose a right nanny
#1: Nanny Tax Compliance
Hiring a nanny is more than just the search for the right person, it
also involves all the work of being an employer. In addition to paying a
salary (or hourly wage), as your nanny's employer you're responsible
for paying payroll taxes, which include at least federal and state
unemployment insurance tax and FICA.
Nanny tax compliance makes the news most often during election seasons,
when a politician or two may admit to nanny tax evasion. Politicians
aren't the only casualty, they just happen to be in the public eye. In
2006, the IRS reported that about 225,000 people paid taxes on household
help, which includes nannies and estimates that the number is probably
much higher -- up to 770,000 child care workers are allegedly employed
by private families.
The bottom line is if you pay your nanny more than $1,500 a year, you're
going to get hit with nanny tax.
#2: Meet Your Match While a prospective nanny may have excellent credentials and references, it's incredibly important that she or he "clicks" with you and your family. Although you'll have uncovered a lot of specific information about your nanny candidates during the screening process, interviews give you and the nanny the chance to talk face-to-face. During the interview, introduce the candidate to your children and observe how they interact. Describe your expectations and be clear about duties, hours, wages, vacation time and listen to how the candidate responds. Also keep in mind that nannies aren't required to have any specialized training, licensing or degrees, but if it's important to you and your family, add it to your criteria. Highly qualified nannies will not only be certified in first aid and CPR training (a must) but will also have taken courses in child development. The International Nanny Association offers a nanny credential exam. Ask about the candidate's education and training. And in the end, don't forget to trust your instincts.
#3: The Screening Process Once you've found a prospective nanny, you'll want to cross your Ts and dot your Is. The International Nanny Association has put together basic nanny standards: must be at least 18 years old, must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must be in good health (with proof of immunizations). While those are a good place to start, you'll also want to conduct a thorough background check. Request and verify references from previous employers. Check work history, education records, driving record, criminal history (which will require fingerprints), credit report and Social Security number. Screening should also verify that your prospective nanny is eligible to work in the U.S. This isn't a secret process -- keep in mind that your applicants can ask to see any screening you do.
#4: Finding a Nanny Once you've decided a nanny would be the best child care option for your family, it's time to search for the right person. An easy place to begin is to put out the word with other families -- nannies talk to nannies and through word of mouth you may get a few good leads. It's also smart to concentrate your search with professional nanny placement agencies and training programs -- they exist to make matches between nannies and families easier. Working with a placement agency makes the search process easier: They locate, screen and manage the hiring process for a fee.
#5So let's say you've decided that you'd prefer to hire a nanny over other types of child supervision. The first step - before the vetting and hiring - is to consider all your family needs and dynamics.
After all, the nanny will be your employee and you want to be sure you hire for your specific requirements.
Questions you may ask yourself: Is a live-in or live-out nanny best for you and your children? Upon what type of schedule would you like your new household to run? Do your children have any special needs? What duties do you expect a nanny to perform in addition to child care, if any? Are there pets in the home? Is the nanny expected to run errands or transport your children in a car - if so, have you factored that into the budget? And don't forget to look long and hard at what you can afford.
Got it? Now write it up in a job description.

HOW TO HANDLE NAUGHTY KIDS
Are
you the mother of naughty kids?
Don’t leave hope .You just need a
little knowledge and small tips to handle them. Me too the mother of a
sweet but very naughty girl took very long time to find the right
solution and the right attitude to deal with these type of kids. She
roams around the whole house breaking things , shouting and doing
activities which makes my brows frowned all the time. I would end up
scolding and shouting and running after her all the day. This is my
story . But I know there are so many naughty kids who make their parents
life difficult to balance between their jobs , home and kids. Now let
us find the reasons behind why kids turn naughty.
TO GAIN ATTENTION - Kids usually wants to be get noticed and loved for
whatever they do. So they do funny things and sometimes their activities
makes you tensed. They try for sweet things to get praise. But if you
ignore his/her activities they try for harder things that can’t ignore.
This way they take your attention which sometimes become very difficult
for you to deal with in between other household works.
TO DISCOVER NEW THINGS – Children usually wants to discover new things
around them . Which sometimes tempts them to do experiments not
favourable for them . Once my daughter broke an expensive piece of
glassware only to know what happens if one throws a thing from a height.
Horrible no! This is a single example but you in your homes might have
experienced with such horrible things .
THEY IMITATE ELDERS- You must have noticed your younger boy or girl
experimenting with your saving set or make up box!

Your kids want to do
things as you do . They imitate you , they want to act , live and work
as you do.
But to put on a whole all these activities make you frown at least 12
hours a day and next 12 hours thinking how to sort out things . It
becomes very much difficult to manage household works and naughty kids
hand on hand. Let us do some stuff to sort out . Consider a few things
and surely you will get some relief.
TALK WITH YOUR KIDS – “They don’t just listen” you are going to shout.
But wait , be patient . Try , sit with your kids .Talk to them. It may
take time . But this way your kids will be attached to you and will
began to listen to you if you do this thing on a daily basis.
Some day
the kids will take interest in your conversation with them and will
began to act accordingly.
BE A CHILD - If you want to make transform your child in to a cool good
goody boy/girl , be a friend to them . Harsh words or punishments
sometimes make the kid stubborn . So tell stories , play with them, give
examples of great people. When the kids will consider you to be their
friends they will surely listen to you.
INVENT NEW GAMES - Invent new games that will make the kids learn while
they are playing .
Make a mind game taking new words and name of places
and share with your kids . That will grow interest within them to learn
something new ultimately driving their attention from doing naughty
stuff.
REWARD YOUR KIDS - Everyone have a greed for a gift or reward ,so do
your child. Gift him/her with books , doll, chocolates for each good
stuff they do. This will prompt your child to mend his behaviour .
Sometimes show them good movies or take ride . This will let them come
closer to you .
LET YOUR CHILD HELP YOU – You must have noticed your little one tries to
do household works as you do but because of lack of knowledge and
training they make a mess of the whole work they want to do. Involve
your child in small household work under your nose.
It will make the
naughty one busy while you are doing some work . Just open your mouth ,
utter sweet words and for small works to be done by them.
Lastly, allow your children to be children at heart. Expecting a child
to behave as an grown up is total nuisance. Just try to make them good
mannered and disciplined putting some effort and tricks .
How Many Children Should We Have?
Folks
sometimes ask us if we are “done” having children.
I think it started soon after we had Simon-Peter, our second. Although
then it was phrased a bit differently. They would ask, “Will you have
more?” And we would respond, “Probably, yes.”
Implicitly, I think society doesn’t expect folks today to want more than
three children, because when we had Lucy 16 months later, the question
morphed to “Do you think you are done?”
“Done” is a funny choice of words.
Parents know you are never “done”
having children. Even when your children are grown you aren’t “done”
being a parent. I passed an old timer on the street in a small South
Dakota town yesterday while walking with all three of our children. He
said (as older parents sometimes do) “enjoy them, this time goes by so
quickly.” He then continued saying that his oldest son was almost forty.
He sure didn’t think of himself as “done.”
So, are we “done”? Joshua and I always felt called to a family of three
or four children.
At this point we have three children with us, and one
that we lost to miscarriage – in that light I suppose you could say that
we are a family of three or four children currently. Right about where
we felt God called us to be.
When folks ask us the question now we usually respond with something to
the effect that we aren’t sure if we are “done;”
we would happily
welcome another child if we found ourselves pregnant. Basically, we have
packed away the baby gear in storage but we haven’t gotten rid of any
of it for good.
One of Joshua’s sisters and her husband felt they were done after having
their two sons. They were confident they didn’t intend to have any more
children. (They gave all their baby gear right away). Then, this past
December she told us she was expecting. Far from being tentative or
chagrinned about sharing their news with those of us who knew they had
thought they were “done” having children, she was excited.
She acknowledged the situation saying that they had not planned to grow
their family anymore but that they had the resources, the time, the
space, etc…and were very happily anticipating their next child. She
finished playfully saying, “But if God is saying God wants us to have
another child, I feel comfortable saying to God that I want to have a
girl this time.”
It makes me smile every time I remember that conversation with her. She
has no fear.
When we work in marriage preparation it is completely unpredictable to
know which couples will choose to use NFP or which couples will use some
artificial form of birth control. It doesn’t follow that a very devout
Catholic couple will go the NFP route or that less religiously committed
couples will use contraception. The only trait the NFP couples have in
common is that they don’t seem to have a “fear of getting pregnant.”
They have some sense of freedom in handing over a portion of the control
in their lives. That isn’t to say that you have no agency or control
when using NFP.

I would argue vehemently to the contrary–that you have
every bit as much control over your fertility using NFP as if you used
the pill. After all, if someone on the pill didn’t take it, it wouldn’t
work. Likewise with NFP, if you don’t follow the rules, it won’t work.
Trusting in God and giving up some aspect of control really is part of
the counter-cultural witness we are called to as Catholic married
couples. Our society is all about control and being able to know and
decide about our lives with CERTAINTY.
Many couples want to determine
with certainty how many children they have.
Certainty is not something that I have regarding the size of our family.
I am not certain that we are “done” having children and I wonder about
it from time to time. I do know that we don’t feel called to have more
children now. And, I know that we actively discern God’s will for our
lives in an ongoing way. Taken together while I may not be CERTAIN, I am
CONFIDENT. I am confident that we are right where God wants us to be
for now; and while that doesn’t necessarily afford me a sense of
control, it does make me feel free.

Choose Nursing Pajamas Instead Of Your Husband's T-Shirts!
During
pregnancy, many women begin using their husbands' baggy t-shirts or an
old pair of sweats for pajamas. Although these options provide basic
coverage, they do not allow one to look and feel one's best. A great
investment during pregnancy is a well-designed pair of maternity and
nursing pajamas. These pajamas are designed specifically for one's
changing body during pregnancy with easy nursing access built in for
after one's baby is born, ensuring that one gets plenty of wear from
them. With stylish designs and feminine detail, one is sure to feel
great wearing them. From pajama sets to nursing chemises, there are a
variety of options available from many different designers.
Olian Maternity is a well-known maternity designer whose nursing pajamas
sets are coveted by mothers around the globe. Lightweight and gorgeous
printed fabrics add a unique touch. Each pajama set is unique in its own
way, ensuring that every woman can pick her favorite. Ranging from
three to five pieces per set, they make fabulous gifts for one's friend,
daughter, or loved one. One beautiful option, new in this season's
collection, is the Floral 5 Piece Nursing Pajama Set. The delicate
floral and leaf pattern, set against a white base, is fresh and
feminine. A shoulderless, cross-front tank provides easy nursing access
for those late night feedings. Matching ankle pants and robe, each with a
dainty pink trim detail, complete the look. Included in this set is an
adorable matching baby sleeper and hat. With such lightweight fabric,
comfort is ensured. Cut beautifully, it can be worn during pregnancy and
nursing and will leave one looking and feeling amazing. All of Olian's
pajama sets are designed beautifully for one's changing body. With easy
nursing access in all of them, they are practical as well as stylish.
BelaBumBum is another maternity designer whose nursing pajamas are
stylish and sexy. Designed for both maternity and nursing, an attention
to detail is apparent in all of their designs. Many women prefer to
sleep in a chemise, and there are many gorgeous ones to choose from.
Chemises designed for maternity and nursing add a hint of sexiness while
still providing the functionality needed for nursing. The Lotus Nursing
Chemise, available in black, cream, or java, is a great option. The
base fabric is supplemented by a contrasting lace trim around the rim
and neckline. The empire waist design is slimming while the adjustable
straps allow the perfect fit. The interior lace cup has nursing access
with pull down nursing clips above each bra cup. Fashionable and
functional, it is the perfect nursing chemise. The Bamboo
Maternity/Nursing Chemise is another beautiful choice. The super soft
baby ribbed bamboo fabric will make you never want to take it off! The
cross over front design provides easy nursing access, while the lace
detail adds the perfect feminine touch. Good for both maternity and
nursing, these gorgeous chemises are a great wardrobe addition.
Majamas is another maternity designer whose clothing is known for its
high level of comfort and easy to wear designs. Their maternity and
nursing sleepwear options are chic, comfy, and cute. One favorite are
the Lacy Cropped MJ's. These incredibly soft pajamas are black with a
pretty contrasting lace trim. The short sleeve top with a crossover
design provides easy nursing access for one's baby. The cropped pants
make this an ideal sleepwear choice for both warmer and cooler weather.
So comfortable, one will want to lounge in these all day long! If one
prefers a full-length pant, Majamas designs just that, with their ever
popular classic Majamas MJs. From raspberry to pewter to dogwood, there
are many options available, all with the same super soft fabric.
No matter which pair one chooses, purchasing a great maternity and
nursing sleepwear option is a great investment during maternity. They
can be worn for many months, ensuring that one gets plenty of wear out
of them. With gorgeous designs and designed specifically with the new
mother in mind, they will leave one looking and feeling amazing.

How to Choose the Right Pregnancy Pillow
Pregnancy pillows come in different sizes, shapes and fabric, which makes selecting just the right pillow a difficult task. Since maternity pillows are supposed to make the life of pregnant women easier, we have decided to put together a manual that will help you make up your mind and choose the right pregnancy pillow.
Size of Maternity Pillows
Pregnancy pillows come in three different sizes; small, medium and large.
Boppy PillowSmall pillows are designed to provide support only to a particular area. Usually they are made in the shape of a wedge and can be tucked under the belly to provide the needed support for your baby bump. Small pregnancy pillows are small enough to be used anywhere and are also great for traveling.
Medium sized pregnancy pillows are the most commonly used pillows among pregnant women. They are meant to be wrapped around the body of the mom-to-be in order to provide all the needed support. These pillows are usually body-length pillows and provide a lot of comfort for the future mom.
Large pregnancy pillows are the most comfortable pillows and can also be used after pregnancy as a nursing aid. They can later be used for positioning while breastfeeding and also as a baby's play area. Before you decide to buy a large pregnancy pillow you need to consider the size of your bed. These pillows can take quite a bit of room in your bad.
Types of Pregnancy Pillows
Pregnancy pillows come in many different shapes, from simple lines and wedges to more complex C and U shaped designs.
Simple wedge pillow looks like a block of cheese and can be tucked under your belly to relieve the pressure while sleeping on your side. It takes the pressure off the spine, which enables you to be more comfortable and sleep better. When you are lying on your side, simply insert the wedge pillow under your abdomen to support it.
Snoogle Total Body PillowPregnancy body pillow is a more complex maternity pillow that offers full body support while you sleep and can also be used as a support for breastfeeding. Body pillows come in many different shapes. Most common are C, U and J shapes.
C-shaped body pillow is also known as Snoogle Total Body Pillow. Snoogle is uniquely contoured to help moms-to-be prevent heartburn and lower back problems. It will keep you sleeping peacefully throughout the night. Snoogle is also great for watching television and for nursing, since it helps elevate baby to the perfect height. Snoogle body pillow provides back and tummy support and helps mom wake up refreshed and invigorated.
